Philip Kotler

Professor Philip Kotler is the founder and chairman of the Global Marketing Group. He is the world’s foremost expert in strategic marketing and widely known as the father of modern marketing.

He ranks 11th in the current list of the top fifty thinkers, a list of the world’s leading business minds. He was selected as the first leader in marketing thought by the American Marketing Association and named the founder of modern marketing management by the Management Thinking Guide.

Kotler is the S.C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both in economics. He did postdoctoral work in mathematics at Harvard University and in behavioral science at the University of Chicago. Professor Kotler has authored more than 52 books on all aspects of marketing, including the widely used marketing textbook in top business schools worldwide, “Marketing Management,” which is now in its twelfth edition.

He has published over 100 articles in leading journals, including the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, Journal of Marketing, Administrative Science Quarterly, and Strategic Business Magazine. He has served as a consultant to IBM, General Electric, AT&T, Honeywell, Bank of America, Merck, and others in the fields of marketing strategy, planning, organization, and international marketing. He has also advised governments on developing their companies’ skills and resources and positioning them in global competition. Professor Kotler has received major awards, including the Distinguished Marketing Educator Award from the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Academy of Marketing Science. He was chosen by the Sales and Marketing Executives International (SMEI) as the top marketer of the year, and the American Marketing Association described him as “the most influential marketer of all time.”
